A graduate with honors from the University of the Arts, Laura Fields is a Philadelphia based artist. Her training and education also includes completing Temple University’s Study Abroad program in Rome, Italy. She has studied, painted  and exhibited her work in Rome, Paris, Brussels, Valencia, and through out the United States.

“Laura Fields exhibits a virtuosic control of the watercolor medium. Her realistic illustration based on ‘The Cock and the Jewel’, a classic Aesop’s fable, brings to mind the ornithological imagery of John James Audubon. Like the 19th century watercolorist, she combines an excellent sense of color and design, precise details and expressive body language”

Working primarily with watercolors, her focus has recently been on childrens’ book illustrations. Laura Fields said, “I prefer to use animals and objects that allow a child to imprint their identity and experiences on the pictures. Children have the own sensibilities. It is fun, intriguing and rewarding to create art they can relate to.”

Laura Fields has worked on museum installations creating spot illustrations for interactive and educational displays. Her highly detailed work has been commissioned for projects ranging from commercial to fine art applications.

Some of her books include Velociraptor Up Close: Swift Dinosaur (Zoom in on Dinosaurs!), Stegosaurus Up Close: Plated Dinosaur (Zoom in on Dinosaurs!)
